Pat's Peloton

This week I'm taking the opportunity provided by my blog to ask you for support in my efforts to raise funds for the MS Society.

But first let me tell you a bit more about why I'm so passionate about this cause.

Its because of Pat, a wife, a daughter, a mother, a mentor, a friend and a fighter.

Pat's attitude has alway been that MS doesn't stand a chance against her.

She's has never taken the 'poor me' attitude about the effects of MS on her health. She refuses to be defined by it.

Initially, the disease set her back, as she struggled to keep working at her job, raise a family and be a good partner to me.

However, she quickly discovered that without time to focus on herself, these tasks were becoming too difficult.

It was then that she decided to focus on her own wellness first. She's taken charge of her health in a way that is a lesson for all of us. "The mother is the gateway to the family's health" she often says.

That is a responsibility she has always taken seriously.

Through it all, she keeps giving more than she has ever asked in return. She has accomplished incredible things that have defied the odds. Half-marathons, mountain climbing, long hours mentoring robotics teams, never once letting anyone suspect she has MS.

A role model to many, but I have just come to expect it. Pat is just plain tougher than MS.

I will be participating in the MS Edmonton event next weekend and I would ask that you consider supporting me as I ride with hundreds of others who are riding to support people struggling with this disease.

My daughter Colleen, son-in-law Will and others have formed a team called "Pat's Peloton" that has raised much needed funding for services and research.

I hope to be back blogging again next week after a challenging (2 days, 185Km) ride this week.
